2009 PETRA III, the ring of brilliance

In 2009, a new synchrotron light source was commissioned: PETRA III, the third expansion of DESY's "Positron-Elektron-Tandem-Ring-Anlage" and one of the most brilliant storage ring X-ray sources in the world.

At first one, and after a further expansion three large experiment halls are grouped along the 2304 metre long PETRA storage ring, with synchrotron radiation being guided via more than 25 beamlines to now almost 60 measuring stations.

Here, users from universities, institutes, and industry encounter excellent experiment possibilities with the extremely intense and bundled X-rays. They perform outstanding basic research there and develop innovative and interdisciplinary applications with a high transfer potential.
